"At the River I Stand" Film Viewing - Burlington

  • Vermont Worker's Center 241 N. Winooski Ave. Burlington, VT (map)

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join us in celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a viewing of the 1993 documentary "At the River I stand." The film chronicles the AFSCME Memphis Sanitation workers strike in 1968, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I have been to the mountaintop" speech. Dr. King was assassinated the following day. The film also documents the launching of the Poor People's Campaign and the aftermath of Dr. King's assassination.

Following the movie, there will be a discussion of how to continue Dr. King's work today!
